Session 1 - Day 8 (Wednesday)
We made it to the eighth day of camp! Just two days left in Session 1.
Today, the campers arrived and jumped right into a crate training session.
After working on crates and freeing the dogs, it was time to learn the "bed" command. To practice "bed" (or "place"), the campers freed their dogs from their crates and guided them into a down on their beds.
The dogs were eager to learn this new skill, and many of them picked it up fast!
After the dogs were lying down on their beds, the campers began to work on distance, duration, and distractions--as they did with crate exercises. But now, with the dogs on their beds.
It was definitely more challenging for the dogs to remain lying down with other dogs right next to them and many more distractions, but they did very well and kept their attention on their campers.
After that, it was time to work on some long lines outside and run with the dogs to get some energy out. Then, the campers packed their bags and loaded onto the buses for a field trip!
Today, the campers went to Greenwood Urban Wetlands. Even though it was raining, the campers and dogs had fun walking or running the loop.
The dogs were on long lines, so they had the freedom to explore and run while still sticking close to their campers.
This was the dogs' first time on long lines outside Doglando, and they all enjoyed sniffing their surroundings and walking with their campers.
Next, it was time for lunch. The tired dogs took a nap while the campers ate at Marketplace.
After lunch, we headed back to the barn. While the dogs continued to nap, the campers headed outside to Nature Play. There, they got to hang out with dogs who are members of Doglando -- swimming in the pond with them and running around.
The campers also had a mud fight, throwing mud at each other and pushing each other into the pond. After the mud fight, the campers washed off by taking turns doing some dock diving and jumping into the pool.
Following the pool, it was time for the campers to get dressed and finish up the photo shoot for the dogs in their Goodwill outfits. After that, it was time for another training session with the beds.
Most of the dogs had gotten the hang of it and were patiently waiting in their beds until released by their campers. The campers then went on one last run up and down the grass strip with their dogs before packing their bags and heading home.
Until tomorrow,
Sofia
