Session 1 - Day 7 (Tuesday)
On Tuesday morning, the campers arrived at the barn and were debriefed on the activities for the day.
They headed outside to work on long lines with their dogs. Because they were going on a field trip without the dogs today, they made sure to run up and down the grass strip with their dogs to tire them out.
After playing with their campers and exploring the new smells, the dogs were ready to go back to the barn and take a nap.
The campers then headed to Doglando Foundation to meet Dr. Danielle, an equine vet. She showed everyone how to hear a donkey's heartbeat, take their weight, and give them vaccines.
Then, she gave a tour of her truck showing the different drawers full of surgical equipment, medicine, and tools needed for checkups.
After showing us her x-ray machine and answering questions about being an equine vet, Dr. Danielle headed out.
The campers were then able to explore Doglando Foundation, meeting the baby goat, giving the dogs belly rubs, and picking up baby chicks.
Then it was time to head back to the barn to walk the dogs and get ready for lunch.
Our lunch questions today were:
After lunch, the campers had another guest speaker. Farmina came to talk to the campers about another dog food brand that prioritizes nutrition and giving dogs the best value with food, so they can live a long and happy life.
Campers got to ask questions about Farmina's food packing process, and they learned about the importance of giving their dogs good quality food from reliable sources. The campers were also gifted with some samples of dog food and other goodies to take home to their own dogs!
Next, it was time to take the dogs back into the pool. Everyone got dressed and headed out to the pool. Today, the pool went much smoother, and the campers were more confident holding their dogs to make them feel safe.
After making a couple laps in a circle, the campers began to swim their dogs. When doing this, they allowed their dogs to swim towards the ramp while holding their arms out, so their dog didn’t try to climb over the edge of the pool.
After pool time, it was time to head out to Nature Play. Today, most of the dogs were able to go off-leash and race around the area.
The campers had fun going into the pond with their dogs or playing chase. The campers also enjoyed finding new ways to play with their dogs--whether it was simply running together through the forest or throwing tennis balls and playing fetch.
Then it was time to head back to the barn.
Back at the barn, campers dressed their dogs up in their outfits from Goodwill and took their pictures.
Then it was time to pack their bags and get ready to leave. After getting their homework for the night, the tired campers and dogs made their way to their cars to head home.
See you tomorrow!
