Session 2 - Day 8 (Wednesday)
With the second week of camp halfway over, the campers came in and did their regular morning routine. Then it was time for some yoga and dynamic stretching to wake them up.
After yoga, the campers took their dogs out for a long line walk. Once everyone had had a good walk, it was time to go back inside.
Back at the barn, the campers put their dogs into their crates to rest, then gathered in the front barn and sat down on the floor. They had a discussion about male and female dog maturity and development.
The campers learned the difference between behavioral and chemical/biological reactions. When the talk was over, the campers loaded onto the bus for an outing without their dogs.
Today, the campers got to visit Rick’s Dog Deli. They took a tour of the facility and learned about how the business started. They got to see how food was made and all the diets that they have available for the dogs. After the tour, the campers got to ask questions and learn more about what they were interested in.
Once back at the barn, the campers took their dogs out for a loose leash walk. They continued to work on their driving skills, being sure to keep their distance from one another. After the walk, the campers came inside and filled their treat pouches because it was time to go to lunch!
The campers grabbed their stuff and took their dogs onto the bus to head to Barrio’s for tacos. Everyone was spread out with their dogs and they got to eat while their dogs laid by their sides, tethered to their chair. Before we left, a few campers quickly put up some flyers, then everyone got back onto the bus.
The next stop was Academy Sports! The campers were able to continue to progress with their loose leash walking in a real world scenario. They worked on their driving and keeping their space down the aisles of the store. They were also able to leave flyers here for more exposure
Then it was back to the barn and the campers took their dogs out to potty quickly. Back inside, they had a discussion of what to bring on tomorrow’s outing and for the sleepover Thursday night. Then it was time for chores! Something that has been long overdue this session.
The campers split up and were given tasks to clean out the barn, bathroom, and buses. Tasks included blowing out the barn and buses, sweeping, cleaning the windows, spraying down the barn, squeegeeing and brushing, mopping, etc. A few campers learned how to mop more effectively.
Once all the chores were completed, all the campers sat in the front barn because it was question time! During lunch, the campers are asked questions, so this time we turned it around, and the campers got to ask questions of our head of camp. Satisfied with their sleuthing, the campers packed up and got ready to go home.
And that ends another great day at camp!
